Register User
Registering an user on the virtual platform is done from the front page (hei4future.dk). Everyone may register and all users have
administrator priviliges, this means that all users may also admin other users and manage
content. Please note that the "Forgot" email is not working. If you forget your email and login
you must contact a colleague to help administrate the user.
Logging into the system is done from the front page (hei4future.dk). If you forget your password please reach
out to a colleague who is already added to the platform.

Searching
Searching is the main functionality in the Virtual Platform. A search may be performed from all
pages within the system. A search is typically done to find a resource or be inspired to find
new resources for a particular topic. When a search has been completed the main area in the User
Interface (UI) is displaying the search results. The user may now filter the content (using the
left side pane) or interact with the resource by clicking the resource.
Resource Types
The resources filter in the left hand side is used to filter the search results. By checking a
checkbox the results will filter and only the results with the selectec filter will be
displayed.
Tags
Tags are also a way of filtering the results. Tags are automatically added to a result based on
the aggregated tags derived from the communities that a resource belongs to. Read more about
this in the "fingerprint" section.
Languages
The languages are used to filter based on languages. Please note that for the filter to work it
is required that a resource is tagged with a language. This is typically done when you add the
resource through the Google Chrome Extension.
Search Results
The search results are the center part of the main pane. The search results displays various
information about each resource. The resource is typically tagged with some types, tags and
languages. If these are available then this information is also displayed in the search results.
Please note that in the bottom of the search results a list of communities that also matches the
search phrase is displayed. The user is able to research further into a community or follow a
single resource into the details about this resource. If the users enters a community then the
user is able to add themselves to that particular community.
My Profile
This section contains information about your own profile, your username etc.
My Communities
This is a list of the communities that you are a part of. You may join communities or leave
communities as you wish. Private communities can not be joined, the owner need to add you.
My Resources
This is a list of all the resources that you have added to the platform. This means that if you
use the Google Chrome Plugin and add a lot of new resources, then you can always find your own
contributions in this list.
Communities
This list of communities is a list of all the communities that you are currently a participant
in. Clicking on the community takes you to that community and you may interact with it here.
Inside a community you have a list of resources that belong to this community. Once inside a
community all the resources inside this community are related and affected by the tags of the
community.
Resources
The central part of a community consists of all the resources that are available inside this
community. These are resources that the members of this community has added to the community and
as such they are related under this community. This relationship might be usefull in other
situations, because this may inspire other users of the virtual platform to find new resources
and be inspired to maybe explore new content and other (related) topics.
Tags
The tags inside a community may one of the most important elements. The tags are used to
determine the context of this community. The tags are a type of description of a community. The
tags are important, because they are used to describe all the resources inside this community.
All resources within a community will also be tagged with these tags. It is not possible to tag
a resource directly, because they must always be a collaborative effort to tag a resource. The
same resource may be in several different communities and will be tagged differently. This is a
central mechanism and this is used to help you as a member to be inspired by a resource by seing
that the same resource is also tagged with tags that may not be related directly to the topic
that you lecture about. This "signature" og tags on a single resource is later referred to as a
"fingerprint".
Members
The members part is the members that are a part of this community. The members of the community
will also have this community in their list of available communities in the main search engine.
It is possible to add new members - this is especially usefull when the community is a private
community.
Notes
The notes are a way of supporting a community with the ability to write textural notes for a
single community. The notes may be quick notes available for the entire community, schedules,
agendas og todo lists for this community. This is the only way you can add your own content to a
community - other resources must already exist on the internet.
Resources & Languages
The Resources and Languages section contains information about how the categories of resources
are within the community. A resource may be categorised as a "Video", "Article" or something
entirely different. This may be done manually on each resource. When a resource is added it is
also tagged with the language of the resource. This language is automatically read from the
online resource and added to the resource in the database.
Inspiration
The inspiration is a list of resources that are related to the resources that already exists
within the community. This list of inspiration is calculated based on how many tags other
resources have in common with this community - and the resource is not already inside this
community. This means that every time a member of the platform adds a resource to a community
this list of inspiration is updated and becomes more and more relevant for this community.
Single Resource
Clicking a single resource that resource is shown along with information about when (and by
who) it was added to the platform. It is also possible to set the "category" of the resource,
that is - is it a video, an article or something else. This list of categories may be added in
the administration part of the system. The title, description and any language of this resource
is added automatically when a resource is added to the platform and read directly from the web
page. It is possible to edit some of these settings - others are locked.
Fingerprint
The "Fingerprint" of this resource is the list of tags shown in the bottom. This fingerprint is
the single most important part of this virtual platform. This is the derived tags for this
resource. These tags represents the aggregated tags of all the communities where this resource
is added. The list is sorted descending after how "important" each tag is - that is how many
times the resource is a part of a community with a specific tag. Hovering the mouse on each tag
shows a percentage of how many times this resource is a part of a community with the given tag.
A resource with only a single tag of "Manufacturing" on 100% means that this resource in solely
inside communities that is tagged with "Manufacturing". The majority of all the resources will
have a long list of tags with various percentages. Clicking a tag will perform a search only
within this given tag. This "Fingerprint" is used to generate inspiration for others and for
other users to examine a single resource and see that this resource is tagged with "Leadership"
on e.g. 12% would inspire the user or make the user wonder why an article on "Manufacturing" may
be tagged with "Leadership". This is to inspire further collaboration with the lecturers /
professors that lecture in "Leadership" and start to work cross-departmental.
Administration
The administration is typically used by an administrator to modify resources within the system.
This is the area where you have full control over everything inside the system and may add,
delete or update all the parts of the system.
Dashboard
The dashboard holds a simple overview of how many resources, types, tags, communities
(workspaces) and users are in the system.
Resources
The list of resources represents all the resources within the system and allows a full overview
and edit the resources directly.
Types
The types represents the different types that each resouces may be categorised as (e.g. video,
article, youtube, etc.). This list is then available inside the search engine of the system when
looking at a single resource.
Tags
The tags represents all the tags that may be added directly to a community, this is also the
only place typos may be fixed on a tag.
Communities
The list of communities represents all the different communities in the system, a full overview
where it is also possible to edit and manage each community.
Users
The different users are added in the system here. It is possible to add new users or change the
password of an existing user. NOTE! this is the only place where a usser may change the password
- but it also allows you to change the password for other users as well. This separation of
roles has not been added to the system.
Google Chrome Plugin
The Google Chrome Plugin is used as a quick access to adding resources from the internet into
the platform. When an user "stumlpes" over an interesting article on the Internet a single click
on this Google Chrome Plugin allows you to added it to the platform and make it a part of one or
more of your own communities.
Install
Installing the Google Chrome Plugin may be done from the Install page
Log in
The Google Chrome Plugin must know who you are as an user and as such you need to "Log in" to
the Google Chrome Plugin. This process is simple and is not protected by security measures. All
you need to do is to provide your email (it assumes that you are already an active member in the
virtual platform).
Add Resource
Clicking the plugin in your browser allows you to add this resource to the system (you will be
able to find it in your list of resources after) and select which of your communities it should
be a part of.
